After receiving hundreds of online application from students, COSF invites Pay It Forward founders to scan the application and sit through interviews in person in Beijing and Hong Kong (online during Covid).
The interview is conducted by a panel of 8 COSF members or trustees follows by additional interviews from Pay It Forward founders. We are looking for the best talents in any field, not merely academic excellency, but most importantly their vision on how they want to contribute towards the society.
Our mission is to help the ones with a great loving heart like the founders, support them not merely financially but throughout their growth and maximise their contribution towards society with our networks. In this way their potentials will be explored with a multiplier effect. This is our way to pay it forward.

Ms Yuanyuan Chen - récipient of 2024 Pay It Forward Scholarship Medicine Award
Yuanyuan is a first-year MPhil student in Population Health and is attending Reuben
College. Her research is on proteins and their possible correlations with diseases.
Yuanyuan obtained her BSc in Psychology from Peking University and an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics also at Peking University.

Ms Gulijiayina Wusufukan - récipient of 2024 scholarship
Gulijiayina is a first-year DPhil student in International Development and is attending
Kellogg College. Her research is on NGOs’ state relations in international decision-making.
Gulijiayina earned MA in Public Administration at Fudan University and in International
Development at Sciences Po in Paris. She has BA degrees in Public Management from
Korea University in Seoul and in Human Resources Management from Renmin University.

Mr Zeren Jiang - récipient of 2024 scholarship (Wang Family Foundation)
Zeren is a first-year DPhil student in Engineering Science and is attending Balliol College.
His research is on AI and human-centred 3D foundation models. He earned his BEng in
Software Engineering and his BSc in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Beihang
University in Beijing. Zeren attained a first-class MSc in Computer Science at the ETH
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

Ms Qianqian Yang- récipient of 2024 scholarship (Wang Family Foundation)
Qianqian is a first year DPhil student in Women’s and Reproductive Health and is attending Wolfson College. Her research is on cardiovascular disease. She earned her BSc in
Clinical Medicine from Nanjing Medical University and her MSc in Internal Medicine at
Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in Shanghai.

Mr Ke Li - récipient of 2023 scholarship (Wang Family Foundation)
Ke is a first-year DPhil student in Clinical Neurosciences and is attending Balliol College.
He attained his Bachelor of Medicine degree at Peking University and his Master of
Medicine degree in Neurology at Peking Union Medical College. Ke’s research will focus on
age-related neurological diseases, including stroke and dementia and examine the mechanisms underlying diseases to try and improve treatment strategies. Ke is also a recipient of
Oxford University’s Clarendon Scholarship. He is from Guangdong Province.

Mr Dongze Wu récipient of 2023 scholarship
Dongze is studying for an MSc in Statistical Science and is attending St Cross College. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong campus in Shenzhen. His research focus is in WIFI gesture recognition to improve technology for patients with disabilities, for uses in industry, and computers for robots. Dongze is from Jilin Province.

Dr Marvin Man Ting Chung récipient of 2023 scholarship - Pay It Forward Scholarship Medicine Award and the Spirit of Hong Kong Award
Marvin is studying for an MSc in Evidence-based Health Care in the Department of Continuing Education. He is attending Kellogg College. He worked as a resident doctor for 8 years and is an orthopaedic surgeon. He attained his MBBS (Medicine) at the University of Hong Kong and recently earned his ChM in Trauma and Orthopaedics from the University of Edinburgh via distance learning. Marvin is from Hong Kong.

Mr Xiongjie Deng récipient of 2022 scholarship and 2023 scholarship
Xiongjie is a 2nd-year DPhil student in Geography and the Environment. He is attending Blackfriars Hall. Xiongjie was awarded the Pay It Forward Scholarship in 2022. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Geomatics from Chongqing University and his Master of Engineering in Remote Sensing from Wuhan University. Xiongjie’s research is on remotely sensed data for understanding, tracking, simulating, monitoring, and predicting forest dynamics under environmental change. He is from Yunnan Province.

Mr Edward Long Yin Lui récipient of 2021 scholarship
Edward is a first year DPhil student in Law and is attending Magdalen College. He attained his Bachelor in Laws at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He participated in the Visiting Student Programme in Law at St Catherine’s College at the University of Oxford. Edward completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) at HKU.

Mr Rickey Ruiqi Yu récipient of 2021 scholarship
Rickey is reading for a Magister Juris and is attending The Queen’s College. He graduated with a Bachelor in Law from Peking University where he was ranked at the top of his class. He has participated in a summer exchange programme in Australia and a summer programme in Sweden. Rickey is interested in compliance and regulatory issues in China.

Miss Ruixuan Zhu récipient of 2021 scholarship, 2022 Wang Family Foundation Scholarship
Ruixuan is a second year DPhil student in Engineering and is attending Exeter College. She graduated with a BA in Engineering from Beihang University in Beijing and she later earned her MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. She attended an academic visitor programme in turbo machinery in St Petersburg in Russia.

Mr Chin Ching Yeung récipient of 2019 scholarship
Chin Ching is pursuing a DPhil in Mathematics. He is attending Linacre College. Chin Ching is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong earning a BSc and an MPhil degree in Mathematics. At Oxford, his doctorate research focuses on Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) which could have potentially wide applications in areas such as weather forecasting and the designing of aircraft. Upon completion of his studies at Oxford, he would like to pursue a career in academia.

Mr Shuofeng Zhang récipient of 2019 scholarship
Shuofeng is pursuing a DPhil in Theoretical Physics. He is attending Linacre College. Shuofeng’s research is related to artificial intelligence. He earned his BSc in Materials Physics at Renmin University. He achieved his Master’s degree in Material Science from Tsinghua University. After Oxford, he hopes to be a research scientist in “ deep learning “ A. I. and aspires to enter academia.

Mr Jiawei Dai récipient of 2018 scholarship
Jiawei is pursuing a DPhil in Condensed Matter Physics and will be attending St Anne’s College. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Peking University. Jiawei’s studies involve pure theoretical work and equations. He has an impressive and outstanding academic track record in physics and has won numerous local, provincial and international competitions. Jiawei chose to apply to Oxford as it is best suited for his specialty research on electrically‐pumped organic semiconductor lasers. Upon completion of his studies, he wishes to pursue a carreer in academia to further commit to his research area and would like to pass on his passion to the younger generation.

Mr Shan He récipient of 2018 scholarship
Shan will read for an MSc in Statistical Science and will be attending Kellogg College. He graduated with a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Hong Kong. Shan attended the University on a scholarship awarded by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation. His research at Oxford will focus on big data analysis and automation. He has ob‐served that there is an existing gap between China’s current insurance industry and the international standards. Bearing in mind China’s large population and the difficulties of collecting certain data, Shan wishes to contribute to the insurance industry’s development by his applied statistical knowledge. Shan’s long‐term goal is to play a part in alleviating poverty in China. Shan is from Beijing.

Mr Tianqi Hang récipient of 2017 scholarship
Tianqi is reading for an MBA at the Said Business School and is at Kellogg College. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics International Trade and Financial Risk Management from Beijing’s Central University of Finance and Economics. He was ranked at the top of his class of 40. Tianqi has interest in the elderly care sector in China. He has business experience with his own start-up involving the recycling of books in China. Tianqi enjoys playing the violin. He is from Beijing.

Mr Bingjun Wang récipient of 2017 scholarship
Bingjun is attending New College and will be reading for a DPhil in Condensed Matter Physics. He is a graduate of Xiamen University where he attained his BEng in Materials Science and Engineering and was ranked 1st out of a class of 95. Bingjun obtained the National Scholarship for 3 consecutive years from 2014 to 2016. He aims to enter academia in China. Bingjun is attending New College.
He is also a China Scholarship Council Scholar. Bingjun is from Dalian in Liaoning Province.

Miss Cecilia Sze Kan Cheuk récipient of 2016 scholarship
Cecilia will read for a DPhil in Medical Sciences in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She will be an EPA Cephalosporin Scholar at Linacre College. Her research will cover endometriosis, women’s pain and sub‐fertility. She graduated from the HK Polytechnic University with BSc (Honour) in Medical Laboratory Science. After her training, she became a registered medical laboratory technologist. Cecilia attained her MSc in Clinical Embryology with Distinction in the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Cecilia is from Hong Kong.

Mr Xiaohang Fang récipient of 2016 scholarship
Xiaohang will read for a DPhil in Engineering Science and will attend Exeter College. He graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from the University of British Columbia and finished with multiple academic awards. His research will look into the spray characteristics of ultra efficient engines. Based on his work in Oxford, he hopes he will be able to combat the challenging pollution control problems in China. Xiaohang is from Shanghai.

Mr Zeyu Duan récipient of 2016 scholarship
Zeyu will read for an MJur in Law and will attend Wadham College. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from Xiamen University and was an exchange student at the European Law School at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He is keen to play a part in China’s participation in globalisation under the framework of international law. Zeyu is from Kunming in Yunnan Province.
